Get Your Groove Back
Remember when you were young and dancing around the lounge room was the most fun thing in the world? Then you became a teenager and loved the disco/school dance/live pub band scene, dancing non-stop for hours on end until you worked up a glow without even thinking about it?
The truth is, dancing is actually fantastic exercise and just as fun now that we’re adults as it was back in those halcyon days. Not convinced? Think about the last big social night you went to. You may have all begun the night politely, making idle chit chat and sampling the finger food, but once the speeches were over and those bubbles kicked in…well. It’s amazing to witness just how many people secretly love to get down and get groovy. And kind of hilarious to boot, especially when trying to keep up with those closet moonwalkers.
By the time it all ends and the ugly lights go on the disappointed ‘ohhh’ kind of says it all. It doesn’t help that the DJ usually saves all the best ‘by request’ tunes to last. (Only at 1a.m. is Sweet Caroline the best song in the entire world.)
Bust A Move
You were probably having too much fun to realise it but you were actually doing some pretty high cardio exercise while you were shimmying under the coloured lights. In fact, the average person burns around 400 calories an hour when in a Saturday night fever which is higher than jogging! We know which we’d prefer to do.
Keeping in mind that doctors recommend we exercise for at least 30 minutes a day, it really makes a lot of sense to throw dancing into the mix when planning a party, social function or night out.
So, get chills that are multiplying and turn your groove thing on, all you dancing queens and kings of the dancefloor. You’ll drink less alcohol, burn more calories and have an active, laughter-filled night. You may even start looking a bit sexy out there.
Hmmm… maybe don’t attempt that moonwalk.
