But, what if you come back with five extra kilos… that isn’t in your luggage? Here’s a few suggestions on cheating holiday comeuppance and dropping those kilos… SuperFast.

So, you’ve arrived back home and braved the scales and (unless your sun tan is made of lead) all that pleasure-seeking has added up. Here’s a few suggestions on cheating holiday comeuppance and dropping those kilos… SuperFast.

A few choice swear words may have slipped out when you stepped on the scales and saw the verdict of holiday indulgence but fear not, we have some sure-fire, tried and tested tips and tricks to nullify the damage and get you back on track. This is one the best things about this way of life, remember? It’s part-time and unbreakable. SFD takes holiday blowouts in its stride, baby.

Getting a head start

One of the best ways to recover quickly is to give yourself a head start and there’s a few ways to do this.

  • 2-Day Method: consider three days instead of two for a faster drop
  • 3-Day Method: consider four days instead of three for a faster drop
  • Part-Day Method: consider combining with 2-Day or 3-Day (basically, do one or the other but eat within an 8-hour window)
  • Supercharge with one day of water fasting – that’s 24 hours (dinner to dinner) with no food – not quite as hard as it sounds when you consider you can have tea, coffee, broth and so on. Yes, really!

Remember, it’s easy on, easy off

One of the best things about putting weight on fast is that you will most likely lose it just as fast. Be encouraged by the fact that your body hasn’t adjusted to being heavier yet so basically you can ‘trick’ it by losing those kilos rapidly, just like it never happened. Magic.

Hey, you can also hide that weight away

Ah, the art of disguise. Until you re-adjust there’s always camouflage and you probably remember how to do it. Accentuate what is still noticeably slimmer since you started but hide any slightly bulgier bits by not having clothes cling in the wrong places and by wearing great accessories. Fab hair and make-up always help too.

Stay positive and practise self kindness – you’ve still got this

Repeat after us: ‘It’s a good thing I over-indulged on my holiday. Life is there to be lived!’

This way of life is designed for feasting and fasting – you’re supposed to enjoy yourself and eat whatever you want sometimes, knowing it will all even out when you balance it out with fasting. No guilt or beating yourself up allowed! (Nor are you permitted to lie on the couch and moan about failure/thighs/way-too-many-delish-blue-cocktails!)

Cut down on the creamy

One very simple rule you can follow for a little while is to cut down on the creamy, and by that, we mean less milk in your coffee, keeping salad dressing on the side, topping meals with yoghurt instead of sour cream and using less cheese and more garnishes like red cabbage and cilantro. Nutshell? Still have creamy stuff for taste, just use less of it.

Here’s what some of our Master Fasters have to say about their holiday rebounds:

‘I always combine Part-Day with 2-Day or 3-Day when I get back. It helps me drop the holiday kilos really rapidly.’ – Mary

‘When I come back (from holidays) I’m very strict with my two day fasting. So I do my two day fasts for several weeks until I get back to where I was.’ – Dr Penny Adams

‘When I went away for two weeks late last year, I’d decided to give myself a break from fasting and I in-dulged. Imagine my surprise when within two weeks of combining part-day with 2-Day, I was totally back to my goal weight.’ – Rosie

‘I’m never worried about feasting on holidays, because it really is easy on, easy off.’ – Victoria
