That’s right, this week is all about making it fun! Why? Because fun is energising and motivating and will ensure great adherence and maintenance.
Whether it’s losing weight, getting fit, or working towards any other lifestyle improvement, most of us know that making the changes (in the first instance) often isn’t that hard – especially when you’ve got a shiny new program, loads of support and a go get ‘em tiger attitude. However, keeping those changes up (in the longer term) can be the real challenge!
And this is where this week’s lesson comes in, Super Squad. Because, to be successful at SuperFastDiet, and to live a Super Life, you’ll need to both make and maintain the changes you’re working on in this program.
We’ve already touched upon a number of strategies that should help with this (such as setting up cues and reminders, as well as reinforcing yourself) but there’s a very powerful yet often ignored strategy that unfortunately too many people fail to utilise.
And this strategy is… fun!
That’s right, the strategy of fun is fun to use – and it really works!
It shouldn’t really surprise anyone to know that people are far more likely to engage in behaviours, and to keep engaging in them if they find these behaviours fun and pleasurable. Quite simply, we tend to do more of the things we enjoy. Sounds obvious, right?
This is why gyms play loud, upbeat music; why many education programs are being gamified (turned in to games); and why workplaces that develop and foster a sense of playfulness tend to outperform comparable workplaces on almost every measure.
So, what does this mean for you here and now?
It means if you can make your SuperFastDiet and Super Life program fun and pleasurable, and satisfying and enjoyable, you’ll be more likely to keep it up. And if you’re more likely to keep it up, you’ll also be more likely to achieve success.
With this in mind, reflect back on the changes you’re trying to make and the goals you’ve set out to achieve and ask yourself…
- How can you make it fun?
- Would music help? If not, what would?
- Would you enjoy it more if you were doing it with a buddy; a friend; or a supportive colleague?
- How can you use your strengths to make these tasks more desirable?
Have you already started incorporating some fun into your program? If so, how? Please let us know by leaving a comment or hop on over to the Members Facebook Page and leave your fun tips for the rest of the Super Squad. Have a super fun week!
