Remember this guy? We all felt a little smug for the patient tortoise when he beat that smarty-pants hare, didn’t we? But the truth is, it really can feel like you have to channel every iota of patience to persevere when you’re nearing that finish line. Phrases like ‘that’ll do’ or ‘I couldn’t be bothered anymore’ can start coming to mind, but it’s important to remember that you want this to be a forever solution. No more weight woes. Ever.

We recommend finding your original motivation and feeding your persistence, so you can charge to the finish line and stroll around in maintenance world, one happy little person in your own shell.
Here’s our top 3 tips to resist (giving up) and persist (all the way home):
- DESIRE + DO: Motivation is brilliant and a fundamental ingredient towards success, but without doing anything with it, it’s basically just a daydream. Persistence = doing. Keep on going, one tortoise leg at a time, because small wins will equal a big win in the end. Who cares if it takes another month or another three? The point is you are going to get there… if you both desire and
- BE STUBBORN: Come on, we bet you’ve got it in you. Determination is really just plain stubbornness sometimes – think back to when you’ve been pig-headed about wanting something in life and succeeded. Whatever it was that drove you to get there you need to channel now. And yes, we are suggesting you be like a turtle and a pig now. Stay with us!
- WHAT DO YOU WANT MORE? It will always come down to this. Keeping the outcome in mind will ramp up your persistence every time so think about it in full technicolour glory: What you are wearing? Where you are? How do you feel? Who is there? It is better than a cheeseburger? It is.
Remember, you’ve done the hardest part now and it’s time to reap the final reward.
We’ll leave you now with some awesome advice from some other Master Fasters, but before we go, we just want to remind you that persistence does pay. And when it comes to the scales, that weighs!
- Get two bead jars: kilos to lose and kilos lost. Fill one jar with the amount of beads representing your kilos to lose and as you lose, kilo by kilo, take out a bead and put it in the other jar. It’s a great incentive putting a new bead in the jar!
- Self-talk is so important. Remind yourself often how much you have achieved. Be proud of your effort as well as your results. Tell yourself daily that you are worth your time and effort!
- Most importantly of all… LIVE your life now!! Don’t wait to be slimmer… you are worth living for, now! Go after what you want right now!!

‘One year ago over 10kgs heavier than I am now. I am still on my weight loss, life-enhancing road with the amazing SFD, with a goal of 60kgs by my birthday. Like everyone I have my good and bad days, but this ‘way of life’ is simply ‘unbreakable’ because you just reset and get on with it. I’ve said it before, and I will say it again, the SFD FB community has been my saviour many times, as I share triumphs, gain advice and support, and give support and guidance where I can. We’ve all got this!!!’ – Angie O’Reilly
