Whatever goals you’ve set and whatever positive habits you’ve begun to create and even, whatever successes you’ve started to achieve there will always be things that interrupt your progress and/or disrupt your ability to complete what you set out to complete on any one day or within any period of time.
This can be frustrating, but this also needs to be accepted. Thinking or expecting everything to go your way is a form of “wishful” and “unrealistic” thinking that tends not to be very helpful; because it just leads to disappointment and irritation.
The reality is… sh#t happens!
And the reality is… we can’t control all of the sh#t that happens.
But, and this is an important “but”… we can control some of it!
Today’s challenge, therefore, is a seemingly simple one, but one that’s also easier said than done; it’s also one that’s vitally important if you want to live a happy and successful life.
Set aside a few minutes to reflect upon all the various factors that affect your ability to achieve what you want to achieve. Now divide them up in to two groups – those over which you have control and those over which you have no control (e.g. other people, the weather etc). Finally, take as much time as you need to decide which of these lists you’re better off focusing on! (Download the template here!)
You probably already know the answer; and the answer is very similar to a concept that’s a very useful philosophy to remember as often as possible…
…do what you can do and control what you can control; accept what you can’t do and what you can’t control; and be wise enough to know the difference!
