We’re all fallible human beings, but that doesn’t mean our faults need to trip us up. This week, Dr Happy explains how to turn our #fails into fortes!

Living your Super Life, your best life, is so much easier when you make the most of what you’re best at! That is: your strengths. Focusing on and fully utilising your positive attributes is fun and energising, and it’s also associated with higher levels of performance.

That being said, just as we all have strengths, so too do we all have weaknesses. It’s true that no one is perfect… so it goes without saying that we all have faults and failings.

This is normal – it’s actually totally OK – it’s important to accept our imperfections.

But accepting our weaknesses doesn’t mean we should just let them dominate our lives. Or, for that matter, interfere with our attempts to achieve our goals. In addition to leveraging our strengths, therefore, it’s also important that we overcome (or at the very least manage) our weaknesses. If we can “fix” them, or turn them into strengths, then even better! But as a bare minimum, we most definitely want to ensure that they don’t cause us to get in our own way.

So how, then, do we do this?

The first step is awareness; knowing where we’re likely to get into trouble is the imperative in avoiding or minimising the impact that these vulnerabilities can have.

With this mind, your Super Life lesson for the week is to contemplate and answer the following questions:

  • Reflect upon the last few times you’ve stumbled, got into trouble, become distressed or failed to achieve something you set out to achieve
  • Review each of these episodes and look for similarities or common themes: have you made the same type of mistake more than once? Do you keep stumbling at the same hurdle?
  • If so, this is a good thing; because it means that it’s easier to predict and prepare for or to plan around
  • And if this is the case, think of all the possible ways you can avoid or cope with this “weakness” if (or when) it rears its ugly head once more
  • It’s also important to note that even if you’re not quite sure where, or how, you’re making mistakes, or falling victim to your weaknesses, you can still think of strategies that will help you pick yourself up and dust yourself off the next time you stumble or become distracted from your ideal path!

Hop to it Super Squad. And remember to download this week’s super-helpful printable worksheet sheet, which will guide you through this activity.
