Learn to embrace #fastfails as bumps in the road, not dead ends!

The best thing about SFD is that it’s made for real life! No one is ever 100% perfect and SFD is designed based completely on the fact that life happens, mistakes are made and ups and downs are natural. So when you hear the term #fastfail; you know it is just a bump in the road, not a dead end!

It’s only Natural!

Biologically, our bodies are intended to go through periods of feast and periods of famine (flashback to your Neanderthal ancestor waiting for caveman hubby to return from the hunt). Human bodies are designed to thrive when we are fortunate enough to have food and ride it out when we don’t. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that constantly consuming food with no substantial fast period isn’t natural.

It explains why, even when exercising and continuously eating less food, our bodies aren’t the size and shape that nature intended. Enter SFD! Intermittent fasting works because it’s what our bodies are naturally designed to do. So why fight it? SFD allows you to live your life as you like; indulging when you feel like it and fasting when you can! The secret ingredient is balance.

Whoops… Whatever!

Regardless of the fasting pattern you’ve chosen; 3-day, 2-day or part-day, mess ups are bound to happen, so don’t freak out when they do. Unplanned after-work drinks and a friend stopping by with goodies are fun occasions that you don’t want to miss, so if they crash your fast day, just fast on another day.

A whoops is really okay! As long as you make up for your whoops, it really doesn’t matter because it all balances out in the end.

Easy Street

On non-fast days, it’s easy to stick to your calorie allowance because it is more generous than you’d expect. Dr Krista Varady’s research shows that it is difficult to completely blow your diet; people don’t (or can’t) consume 175% of their calories on a feast day; at most people consume around 110%.

So, you’d have to be activity trying to sabotage yourself to do any real damage. Having said that, the whole point of SFD is that you’re allowed to indulge on feast days, so you really can’t go wrong!

Keeping your calorie count in mind on feast days is still a good idea even if you are letting your hair down. Easy ways to get the best value-for-calorie when socialising include:

  • Sharing a dish with a friend rather than ordering one each (this will also save you some pretty pennies!)
  • Starting with a salad or soup to help fill you up
  • Choosing a lean protein
  • Keeping an eye on portion sizes
  • Asking for sauces and dressings to be served the side
  • Choosing vodka and soda instead of drinks like creamy cocktails
  • Drinking champagne instead of wine (easily the best diet tip ever!)

Here at SFD we believe in eating, drinking and being merry… because tomorrow we can fast!
